LAKE TURKANA

Lake Turkana is one of the largest desert lakes in the East African Rift Valley, the world’s most formidable geological fault. The lake stretches more than 300 km from the lush Omo River Delta in the north (Ethiopia) to the deserts and vulcanoes of the Suguta Valley in the south (Kenya).

Here, landscape is on a grand scale. Paleoanthropological excavations by Richard Leakey have shown that the evolution of mankind originally took place around this region. The lake, once connected to the Nile, harbours one of the
last great Nile crocodile populations on earth and is home to more than 200 species of birds. Legendary nomadic tribes such as the

Dassenech, Gabbra, Rendille and Turkana live around the lake according to their ancient cultures and traditions.
Paleoanthropological excursions to legendary excavation sites, game drives to remote National Parks and ethnobotanical bushwalks with unique nomadic tribes in the Turkana region give insights to one of the most beautiful and unspoiled regions in East Afrika.
Incorporating a private air charter over the East African Rift Valley and a private boat charter (fibreglass boats with 250 HP outboard engines) on the remote Lake Turkana, this exclusive expedition is geared to a maximum of 11 participants who want to see the “Cradle of Mankind” in the heart of Africa. The expedition is staffed by a group of experienced individuals who know and love this land and enjoy sharing its unique beauty. In Nairobi and Nanyuki the participants are accommodated in exclusive hotels and safari lodges. In the Lake Turkana region and up the Omo River Delta, porters set up beautiful fly camps each evening and cooks prepare excellent meals in spectacular settings.

Pilots and boatmen have vast experience in the area and the expedition leader, an expert in the field of Tropical Medicine and Travelers Health, shares with you his wealth of information about the people, wildlife and terrain of East Africa.
