TRAVEL PREPARATION
 

Immigration

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months. Keep copies of important pages of your passport separately. You require an Ethiopian tourist visa (single entry, 1 month duration, point of entry Omorate), which you can obtain from the Ethiopian embassy in your home country. A Kenyan tourist visa (single entry, 1 month duration) can be obtained for a fee of US$ 50,- on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi.


Health

You should be in good health and reasonably fit. It is necessary to be vaccinated against yellow fever. It is highly recommended to be vaccinated against polio, diphtheria, tetanus, typhoid, hepatitis A and to take malaria prophylaxis (Malarone or Doxycyline). Luggage

Light trousers, shorts/skirt, shirts, light sweater, lightweight waterproof or foul weather gear – both jacket and pants, lightweight walking shoes with good soles, sturdy sandals, bathing suit, towel, hat with a chin cord (to save it being blown overboard), large size plastic bag bin liners – for putting over luggage to keep it dry, good quality sunglasses, waterproof sunblock cream, mosquito repellent, small lightweight rucksack, fronthead-flashlight, universal electricity adapter, alarm clock, small binoculars. Luggage should be packed in a strong lockable soft bag (not bulky suitcase). Maximum luggage weight per person is 12 kg.


Money

It is recommended to carry approximately US$ 400,- cash (bills dated after 2002) for drinks, personal expenses and tips. Visa credit cards are only accepted in Nairobi and in the Sweetwater Tented Camp.


Insurance

You should have your own comprehensive travel insurance (health, accident, baggage etc.) A travel cancellation insurance is highly recommended.

Internet and E-Mail

You have access to the Internet in the Fairview Hotel, Nairobi and Sweetwaters Tented Camp near Nanyuki. The expedition leader will be equipped with a satellite telephone for emergencies throughout the expedition.

Airport transfer

A free taxi transfer (approx. 20 km) is provided from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Fairview Hotel (Bishops Road, Nairobi Hill, Phone: +254-(0)20-2711321, Fax: +254-(0)20-2721320, book@fairviewkenya.com, www.fairviewkenya.com) in the center of Nairobi. The transfer takes about 30 – 60 minutes depending on the traffic. The taxi driver will wait for you in the arrival hall of the airport building holding a blackboard with your name. Kenya/Tanzania  
After the course you can climb Mount Kilimanjaro, do game drives in the Serengeti and Masai Mara National Park or spend relaxing days on the Indian Ocean beaches in Lamu, Malindi, Mombasa or Zanzibar.

Uganda  
After the course you can treck the Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, climb the Rwenzori Mountains and go on game drives in Murchinson Falls National Park.
