Kay Schaefer, born in 1960, is a Consultant in Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health in Cologne, Germany. He holds an M.D. (University of Berlin), a Ph.D. (University of Amsterdam), an MSc in Clinical Tropical Medicine (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine), and a DTM&H (University of London). He has lived for many years in Kenya, carrying out research on Tropical Infectious Diseases. In 1995 he started organizing Tropical Medicine Expeditions for European and American healthcare professionals in East Africa and since then has supervised 29 Clinical Training Courses to Uganda and Kenya (www.tropmedex.com). Between 2004 and 2008 he has organized 4 Wilderness Expeditions to Lake Turkana. He is fluent in German, English, French, Italian and Kiswahili.
